THANK YOU LETTER WITH JUNE 2026 UPDATE

Fondi, 1st of July 2026

Dear fellow believers who meet at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,

Greetings from Fondi, we are now experiencing typical Italian summer, as a matter of fact we had typical July temperatures during the last ten days of June - this constitutes quite a challenge for sleeping at night and also for our poor Marco who is now going to Sperlonga to work every day in a restaurant with a long shirt and trousers on. To get there he must board a bus at the Fondi station (where we take him) and the bus, which does not have air conditioning, is full of tourists who get off at the Fondi Sperlonga station wishing to go to the quaint village of Sperlonga. Quite a challenge for all concerned.

During the first week of June Marco finished his school year successfully, having a final average of 7 out of 10. He then began to work every day in Sperlonga.

Alan has continued going to the office of the local police in Terracina, mostly by bus but as far as we know his trip there is a lot more comfortable in comparison to Marco’s trip to Sperlonga. Having said that, he has just had a very busy couple of weeks preparing Lorenzo for Lorenzo’s UE diploma exams (we had Lorenzo in our place every afternoon and evening for weeks). Apparently Lorenzo did well- Alan’s voluntary investment of many hours into his life paid off. Please pray for Lorenzo Campagna’s conversion.

Also please pray for Alan as he began a challenging week on the 27th of June. He left from Frosinone towards the region of Puglia on a bus, he is there for a week to be an overseer of children in a kids’ camp. Luca from the Grace for Grace church did it last year and didn’t get much sleep at all. Puglia in the plains is known to be hotter than Fondi (40 degrees instead of 35 degrees in the shade) hopefully the fact that the camp center is in the hills will render his experience there a little more pleasant. I worked in the Foggia province years ago gathering tomatoes and it was anything but pleasant.

Outreach to foreigners in Fondi and beyond continues albeit in more low key ways.

On the 10th of June the end of school year event for the group of Indian women was held in the local assembly hall. In the photo on the next page you see sister Carmelina speaking at that event.

The following weekend as a couple we had a brief but intense time with Peter and Karen Brookes from our commending assembly in New Zealand (Lincoln Road Bible Chapel) taking them to the local assembly on Sunday (after the photo of Carmelina you will find a photo of me and Peter at the meeting with me translating him giving his testimony). We also spent time taking them around Fondi on Sunday evening and on the ancient Appian way on Monday morning (betweeen Fondi and Itri). The time in central Fondi on Sunday evening was good because on an ancient street in Central Fondi whilst walking around I found two Gambian men who speak Wolof. I had previously been able to receive evangelistic booklets in Wolof and on the 16th of June in the evening I returned to them and took them two booklets. The story doesn’t end there! The following week Patrizia whislt putting the house in order found a box containing Gospels of Luke in various languages. What you see in the photo at the beginning of this letter is the cover of the Gospel of Luke in Wolof produced by the Baptist Mission in Senegal and that is what I took to one of those same men I had met the previous week (I took him two copies). I do not know their names but please pray for them. There are over 100 thousand Wolof speakers in Italy and over 210 000 Bangladeshis (Bengali speakers) in Italy and both groups of people are mostly Muslims and in need of the Gospel (and also often harder to reach in their villages of origin in Africa and Asia).

Bangladeshis last month were reached both at the Fondi station (whilst taking Marco to the bus there) and in Sperlonga itself whilst taking Marco directly to work.

Another significant “African” encounter took place early June, in the local post office, I met a man from Lybia! and was able to give him an evangelistic booklet in Arabic (the same series of evangelistic booklets that I gave to the two Gambians but different language).

We have also been very busy helping Manoj to book his tickets for a trip to India (and back) in August and also organizing consultations with an oncologist in Terracina, for future chemotherapy, on the 1st of July. The visit took place today, we told them about Manoj’s plans for visiting his family in India and they reminded us of the importance of his chemotherapy. We were able to reach a Sikh man with the Gospel before leaving the hospital premises.

Now he has two MRIs one on the 13th of July and one on the 23rd of July.

Looking ahead please pray for stamina for Marco, for the Lord’s continual protection of all of us, especially in our trips to Terracina and Rome with Manoj (on the 13th of July Manoj is supposed to be having an MRI to show, hopefully, that his cancer has not extended to other parts of his body beyond the part of it which was operated on and bombarded of recent times with radiotherapy- the MRI will be in Rome where he has been having radiotherapy unti recently).

We must also go to Rome on the 16th to go and pick up a new bank card for Patrizia - they won’t be sending it to us by mail (yes, things are often more complicated and more expensive in Italy than they are in New Zealand or the USA).

Marco is supposed to be getting baptised on the 7th of July and we (Patrizia and I) have specialist visits on the 9th and 10th of July - it will be a busy week (3rd to 10th of July).
